Full Qualification
SVQ Beauty Therapy
Full Qualification
The SVQ Beauty Therapy is a nationally recognised qualification delivered over a full academic year. It covers all 13 units across every treatment area and is the most comprehensive qualification we offer.
SVQ students attend on Sundays for in-salon practical training. Theory is completed through home study between sessions. Assessment is ongoing throughout the year through practical observations, case studies, and knowledge questions.
You do not need to start with the SVQ. Many students complete one or two bundled courses first, then progress to the full qualification when they are ready.

My journey into the beauty industry didn't start in a glamorous salon. It started in 2014, coming off maternity leave. I knew I didn't want to put my son into full-time childcare, but I needed a career that could work around his two-hour playgroup sessions.
I borrowed £200 from my husband, booked a gel polish course, and set up a small nail desk in my living room in Balmedie. I took one client while my son was at playgroup, and another after he went to bed. My husband literally used to hide in the kitchen, sitting on a small stool, just so I could work.
Over the next few years, I rented spaces, constantly upskilled, and eventually went back to college as a mum to gain my Level 2 and 3 in Beauty Therapy. When I finally opened Michelle Walker Beauty — and later our expansive premises with a team of seven — I realised I didn't just want to provide treatments. I wanted to provide the kind of supportive, realistic, high-quality education I craved when I was starting out.
Today, MWB Training is a fully approved Qualifications Scotland centre. As Head of Education, I am supported by two dedicated tutors, and together we offer the SVQ in Beauty Therapy designed specifically with your life in mind. Our practical training takes place on Sundays, and the majority of our theory content is designed for flexible home learning.
